Welcome to CleverCat Tutoring!
I am a certified CRLA (College Reading and Learning Association) tutor who has spent the past 2 years tutoring mathematics, psychology, and Japanese at the college level. In a typical semester I tutored 30+ students a week over a variety of subjects, with most of my sessions being full (capped at 3 students/session). Currently I am also a math and science tutor at Rowan Cabarrus Community College as well as a private tutor in the surrounding area.

No payment required prior to your first session! Your first hour is on a "love it or leave it" basis. If you feel it just "isn't working out," you can simply walk away after your first hour, no strings attached. (However, I hope you won't!)
CleverCat Tutoring is the joint-effort of 2 people - April Oster (founder) and Tim Cunius (co-founder). We are based in Cleveland, NC and now tutor an area covering Iredell, Cabarrus, Rowan, and the Lake Norman area. This includes Concord, Statesville, Salisbury, Kannapolis, Mooresville, Cornelius, Davidson, and the surrounding areas. CleverCat Tutoring was founded in February 2013 by April Oster. Tim Cunius, her partner, soon joined her as a part-time tutor. Since its founding CleverCat Tutoring has spent over 500 hours helping students just like you! The subjects we tutor range from Algebra, Geometry, Calculus(Math), to Biology, Physics, Chemistry(Science), to Proofreading, Literature, and Reading Comprehension(English).
Our main service is in-person tutoring. We offer to meet you in your home, or in a public place(with a surcharge, if over 20 miles) We offer rates ranging from $20 to $45, and cover an area including Cornelius, Concord, Davidson, Mooresville, Statesville, Salisbury, Kannapolis, and the rest of Lake Norman, Cabarrus County, Rowan County, Iredell County, and much more! We now have the capability to tutor over any distance, at any time. Utilizing the software of Anymeeting.com, I can now tutor anytime, anywhere. Have a question in the middle of the night? Email me and I can walk you through your problems ONLINE, from the comfort of your own computer. Have a test coming up, but you live a state away? No problem! Anymeeting.com allows me to optimize the number of students I can help, regardless of distance. These online meetings will combine the benefits of real-time speech between yourself and April with the visual help I am known for. And, last but not least, I will include a price break for any students that sign up for online tutoring before the halfway point in the semester!
Homework help is a given in all tutoring sessions. My policy regarding homework is that I will help you with it, but I will not do it for you. This is for your benefit (I already know the material, you are learning the material and your homework is designed to help reinforce your lessons) and also because I believe in academic honesty.
In addition, as a courtesy to you, I make myself available via phone and email for the occasional question regarding homework. For more detailed work (such as proofreading or reviewing homework), I reserve the right to charge for time committed. In such instances, the rate charged will be at a 40% reduction.
Here's how they works --
1) You contact me about getting Clever Credits for that special, lucky person.
2) We discuss the rate for that person. (Remember, my rates are variable).
3) I'll give you the cost of the Clever Credits. Each credit is good for 1 hour-and-a-half lesson.
4) I'll issue you a special certificate detailing the amount of credits purchased, suitable for presenting to that lucky student. It will have my complete contact information and expiration date* on it.
5) The student then contacts me to setup lessons.
April's tutoring method entails precisely identifying the underlying issue in the fundamentals of a student's learning and working with them to correct it while simultaneously assisting them with their current course work. This prevents students from falling behind in their current course work while still setting them up for success in future work. She also works with students on improving their study skills and time management skills (something she, herself, had to work on in school) so that they will experience success in all aspects of their academic careers.
Tim specializes in the "hopeless" cases. Students who have been turned away by others because they are "just too lost", or saying "it's too late". He prefer to work with these cases, because these are the people who deserve to succeed. The look on the face of these students when they finally understand a concept for the first time is one of the most rewarding sights this world has to offer, and that is exactly what he strive for.
